In 2007, Greensburg was 95% destroyed by a tornado that was wider than the town. The twister was 1.7 miles wide. It was on the ground for 22 miles and 30 minutes. Maximum winds were estimated at 205 mph. There were 25 separate tornadoes reported in the area the same weekend.
