One: Are you traveling or are you goin somewhere?
Me (smiling): I'm not sure how to answer that.
One: Maybe I can help. I saw you comin up one of those hills from Ash Grove and didn't look to me like was going anywhere. So you must be traveling.
[General, hilarious laughter.]
I have the sense they have told this joke before.
They had some accurate things to say about how cars ("and good roads") have killed small towns. And one fellow told a "very funny" story about his visit as a child to the Denver Zoo and watching an elephant catch a bird and squash it underfoot. He laughed alot but the rest of us were just puzzled.
