Communication
     Formica sanguinea have an
advanced communication system, which allows them to assemble raids at large
distances from their nest. The formica sanguinea uses ants to relay messages
via pheromones sent from one ant to another all the way back to the nest.

Like all ants, formica sanguinea communicate
with each other by facing toward each other and touching antennae. This will
tell the formica sanguinea if the ant is of the same colony or if it is a
different species. This can easily be observed near the nest entrance, and
with ants moving opposite directions on a pheromone trail.
