| Thiagaraja (1767 - 1847) was one of three famous composers of kirtanas and ragas. He composed in Telugu, the state language of the next state over - Andhra Pradesh. (Chennai/Madras is in Tamil Nadu.) Many of this works praise Rama, an incarnation of Vishnu. Thiagaraja believed one could reach salvation through devotional music. | |
