In the stairwell at Pensione Roma. The stairwell is a foul, dark, dirty place. The only one I have ever seen that was worse was in a Chicago public housing project. Put off by the stairwell, we didn't even investigate the Pensione when we were first hunting for a hotel. Later, while wandering around Cairo, we held our noses and climbed the stairs. We found an inexpensive and friendly place run very efficiently by a lovely Italian woman and her devoted staff. |
