This is the front of a huge line of people waiting to buy lottery tickets. Spain's Christmas lottery was first held in 1812 and has been held continuously since then. Based on payout, the Spanish Christmas Lottery is the largest in the world. Most people have a piece of a ticket. (Tickets cost 200 Euros, but one can buy a tenth of a full ticket or, through private groups, a smaller fraction.) First prize is called "El Gordo."
